One for all, all for one

A method of production where anyone, anywhere in a community get together to make things just because they want to. They do it because they can, and to fulfil their own needs. They organise themselves and they keep hierarchies largely flat.

It works effectively because people self assign their tasks and skills. People know themselves the best, so they’re best qualified to say what task they’re willing to take up and how they’ll get it done.

It works when 3 conditions are met :

  1. The cost of contributing is low. It works when its so easy that it doesn’t feel like work
  2. The task of making something is so small that it can be done in their own time and space
  3. The cost of bringing together everyone’s effort also remains low. Everyone’s work can seamlessly come together to make the finished product
